In 2011, faced with the mounting need to have a larger and more modern space for the Val Verde County Library to provide programs benefiting reading skills of children, mentoring students, space for computers and technology for training adults for new careers or help in finding jobs, the Val Verde County Commissioners established a Committee to raise funds and build an architecturally significant building to meet the future needs of the area.

Val Verde County owns a city block where the existing 8,800 sq. ft. facility is located. Plans are being finalized for a 20,000 sq. ft. structure. With $550,000 in bond funds currently available for the project, it is well on its way.
